My Vacation:

This year i visited Key West, Florida for the very first time. I was so very excited to do all the things I had researched before going. The beaches there were beautiful. Yet, my favorite activity was besides the night life and beautiful landscapes was the butterfly observatory. The butterfly observatory houses some of the rarest breeds of butterflies. I learned things about butterflies that I never knew before. I spent hours in there photographing the butterflies. I found inspiration in the multicolor wings. I saw butterflies of all sizes and colors. I even saw butterflies mating. I think it is wonderful how these butterflies are preserved. In the gift ship, you can even take home a trophy butterfly. The gift shop sold everything with butterflies on them, like soap, perfume with butterflies on the labels, flowers with butterflies even stained glass butterflies! I rate my trip to the butterfly observatory a 10! It is a must see when in Key West!

Free the Butterflies


Florida is the home of the largest butterfly observatory. Hundreds of butterflies are trapped in a tiny room with butterfly bushes. The butterfly observatory exploits some of the rarest breeds of butterflies. The double doors at the exit makes sure that no butterfly ever holds a chance of escaping. These butterflies never see the real outdoors. These butterflies are confined to live their whole entire lives in this 1,000 sq.ft room. The climate control simulates the actual temperatures of Key West. Yet is not hard to tell how many butterflies are housed a year. In the gift shop, the observatory sells plastic cases with dead butterflies. When I questioned the sales clerk regarding the amount of dead butterflies, she assured me they died of natural causes.
